The Revenge of the Pornographer.
Many
artists pay the bills by feeding images to the insatiable sex
industry. Few turn that particular necessity into artistic invention.

When Wagner began experimenting with Polaroid images
of provocative female nudes, the distinction between fine artist
and urban survivor blurred. A new focus emerged, yielding self-assured
art pieces that juxtapose Wagner’s abstract sensibility with
the representational demands of commercial titillation.
Erotica isn’t for everyone; but for those
who appreciate it, the work in this gallery will both inspire
and impress. It’s not often we find images that so magnificently
satisfy a taste for audacity, even as they stir the tenderness
at the heart of all erotic longing.

“The
pornographer's stock combinations—boy/girl, girl/girl—return
in this work, but turned to my own ends. Instead of quick, crude,
easily replicable photographs intended for physical release,
I offer a series of slowed-down, intensively detailed paintings
that ask the viewer to look again and again: to take pleasure
in line, design and color.”
